The Light Post

The Light Post follows the story of the McClain family, centered around Randi McClain, a Black lesbian woman grappling with her identity and her relationships with predominantly white women. Set in Riverdale, Michigan we follow Randi’s perspective as she navigates the complexities of family dynamics.

At the heart of the story is Kevin McClain, the patriarch of the family, who is losing his mind while at the same time refuses to sell the family bar, The Light Post, despite pressure from white business owners. Kevin’s attachment to the bar is rooted in his belief that the spirit of his deceased grandson, Cecile, resides in the jukebox, inherited from Kevin’s father. This belief becomes a point of contention within the family, symbolizing the generational trauma and loss they’ve experienced, particularly at the hands of the police. As tensions escalate, a mysterious woman enters The Light Post during a snowstorm, sparking a chain of events that force the McClain family to confront their past traumas, `present struggles, and uncertain futures.
