Measure of a Man

After his brutal assassination in a conspiracy orchestrated by the FBI and Cook County Police, Chairman Fred Hampton finds himself trapped in a surreal limbo—an uncanny, fractured version of the Chicago apartment, 2337 West Monroe Street, Chicago, IL, where he took his last breath. As time twists and reality bends, Fred morphs between various characters to reveal his triumphs and tragedies of his short but revolutionary life.
Through absurdist and poetic storytelling, Measure of a Man explores the weight of Hampton’s legacy as the fearless Chairman of the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party. Confronted by the forces of history and the gods of the afterlife, he must decide will he surrender to death or fight for one last chance to return to the movement that was stolen from him. A meditation on power, sacrifice, and the unbreakable will of a revolutionary spirit, this one-act play examines what it truly means to measure a man.
